Songwriting is anything but easy. Almost always, professional songwriters tend to get stuck as their inspiration tends to dry up and working harder at their songwriting doesn’t seem to help much either.

#1: Listen to other people’s music

While it’s a good idea to pick songs that are considered classics, remember to listen to music that is current as well. Think about what makes a song a classic when listening to them. Most of all, pick up any arranging techniques or even song structures if you like them. It’s not stealing but studying the music for your own benefit.

#2: Think about co-writing

Co-writing with someone else has its advantages. Not only can they fill in for your weaknesses but they can bring new perspectives either lyrically or melodically.

#3: A rhyming dictionary

Using a rhyming dictionary can help you get words than an ordinary one will. Also, using a thesaurus for other words might also be an excellent idea too. The latter will give you a lot more words that will add that flavor to your songwriting ability.

#4: Buy some books on songwriting

There are a number of good books that will give you perspective on a number of things that you would never know about.
